Persistent Discrepancies between Observed and Modeled Trends in the Tropical Pacific Ocean

چکیده

Abstract The trends over recent decades in tropical Pacific sea surface and upper ocean temperature are examined observations-based products, an reanalysis the latest models from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase six Multimodel Large Ensembles Archive. Comparison is made using three metrics of (SST) trend—the east–west north–south SST gradients a pattern correlation for equatorial region—as well as change thermocline depth. It shown that generation persist not reproducing response to radiative forcing latter at far edge or beyond range modeled internal variability. observed combination shoaling lack warming cold tongue upwelling region similarly extreme limit behavior. persistence last century half trend toward enhanced gradient and, four five gridded datasets, gradient, also model concluded it extremely unlikely consistent with Instead, results support argument which key climate continue be unable simulate this aspect change.

Mismatch between observed and modeled trends in dissolved upper-ocean oxygen over the last 50 yr

Observations and model runs indicate trends in dissolved oxygen (DO) associated with current and ongoing global warming. However, a large-scale observation-tomodel comparison has been missing and is presented here. This study presents a first global compilation of DO measurements covering the last 50 yr. It shows declining upperocean DO levels in many regions, especially the tropical oceans, wh...

Ocean noise in the tropical and subtropical Pacific Ocean.

Ocean ambient noise is well studied in the North Pacific and North Atlantic but is poorly described for most of the worlds' oceans. Calibrated passive acoustic recordings were collected during 2009-2010 at seven locations in the central and western tropical and subtropical Pacific. Monthly and hourly mean power spectra (15-1000 Hz) were calculated in addition to their skewness, kurtosis, and pe...

Salinity fronts in the tropical Pacific Ocean

This study delineates the salinity fronts (SF) across the tropical Pacific, and describes their variability and regional dynamical significance using Aquarius satellite observations. From the monthly maps of the SF, we find that the SF in the tropical Pacific are (1) usually observed around the boundaries of the fresh pool under the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), (2) stronger in boreal ...

Tropical cyclone footprint in the ocean mixed layer observed by Argo in the Northwest Pacific

This study systematically investigated the ocean mixed layer responses to tropical cyclone (TC) using available Argo profiles during the period of 1998–2011 in the northwest Pacific. Results reveal that isothermal layer (IL) deepening and isothermal layer (IL) cooling with evident rightward biases induced by strong TCs are clearer compared to the weak TCs. Likewise, the rightward biases of IL d...
